Despite Kotak being a trusted brand in financial services, the existing trading app faced several challenges:

Complexity in Trading Journeys: Buying/selling shares involved too many steps, creating friction for users.

Cluttered Interface: Overloaded dashboards made navigation difficult for beginners.

Inconsistent Design Patterns: Different flows lacked a unified design language.

Lack of Personalization: No tailored insights or recommendations for different user types (investors vs traders).

Onboarding Drop-offs: Many users abandoned the app before completing KYC or their first trade.

We defined clear design objectives to guide our work:

Simplify the Trading Experience: Reduce steps and improve clarity in trading workflows.

Unify the Design System: Maintain consistency across features and platforms.

Improve Onboarding: Reduce drop-offs and help first-time investors get started.

Enhance Market Insights: Provide accessible, real-time data visualization.

Personalize User Journeys: Tailor experiences for investors, traders, and wealth planners.

We categorized users into three main personas:

Beginner Investors: New to stock markets, seeking guidance, educational content, and safer investment options (e.g., mutual funds, SIPs).

Active Traders: Regular users who value speed, real-time updates, and advanced tools like charting and derivatives trading.

Wealth Builders: Long-term investors looking for portfolio insights, asset allocation, and performance tracking.

We followed a human-centered design approach:

a. Research Conducted surveys and 20+ user interviews.
Benchmarking competitor apps (Zerodha, Groww, Upstox).
Mapped current user journey and identified friction points.

b. Define Created user personas and empathy maps.

c. Ideation & Wireframing Whiteboard workshops with the product team.

d. Prototyping Developed interactive prototypes using Figma.
